Aw, A Relaxing Weekend

The First Family Vacationing In Maine

The First Family on a much needed and deserving vacation on Mount Desert Island, ME.

I thought I'd share this 'pool report' with you as it has been the most descriptive one describing the First Family's vacation in Maine this weekend.

Politico pooler, (one of many covering the 1st Fam's weekend vacation) Carol Lee, wrote Friday the following from Witch Hole Pond at Cadillac Mountain:

No sighting of the first family after their roughly 90-minute bike ride. The motorcade was rolling from Witch Hole Pond at 2:22 p.m. It snaked up the moutainside, with beautiful views of the sun-drenched blue water and cloud covered pine trees coming in and out of sight along the way.

President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Sasha and Malia arrived at the top of Cadillac Mountain at 2:36 p.m. Cadillac Mountain is highest elevation point in Acadia National Park and the highest elevation point on the Atlantic Coast at 1,500 feet, according to a sign at the site.

Pool was let off the pool bus in the parking and watched the first family walk up a stone path to a lookout point. Sheridan Steele, the superintendent of Acadia National Park, greeted them. POTUS chatted with Steele for a few minutes, gesturing now and then as FLOTUS and Malia stood with him and Sasha twirled around.

They then walked a short distance to where about a dozen fellow tourists were standing with their backs turned to the magnificent view so they could take in another sight: POTUS, FLOTUS and the Obama sisters.
Bo, out for a stroll on a leash, made a brief appearance in the parking lot but didn't come close enough for pool to pet him.

Around 2:50 p.m. pool was escorted to the lookout area where POTUS had been so we could catch sight of the Obamas walking on the paths along the mountain's edge.

A few minutes later the Obamas came into view. POTUS strolled along with his hands in pockets. The family chatted as they walked. POTUS walked alongside Malia, with FLOTUS and Sasha a step behind them. The four of stopped at one point and stared out at the view. POTUS appeared to be explaining something about the scenery, gesturing with his hand out at the water, peaks and islands.

They continued along the path. POTUS and FLOTUS were walking in front of their daughters holding hands as they slipped out of view.
Hiking and biking aside, I don't know about you, but that is a beautiful site, on so many levels.

In wake of the Zika virus, travel, spring break still O.K.

Representatives from the CDC and the NIH were on hand at the White House during Monday's press briefing to update the public and address concerns over the Zika virus that has caused some babies to be born with deformities. Dr. Anne Schuchat from the Centers for Disease Control and Dr. Tony Fauci from the National Institutes of Health told reporters that a vaccine is in the making.   The pair also said they are particulary concerned about women who are pregnant, or plan to get pregnant, who have either traveled to or plan to travel to areas of South America and the Carribean known to have the Zika virus. Despite those bold statements, the doctors said there is no wide-spread concern and that Americans should continue to travel, including during upcoming college spring breaks --  when college students travel to warmer climate destinations to escape winter weather. "Travel to Zika-affected areas is very common among Americans, and we don’t think that needs to stop...
