The first lady took to the heart the successes of her husband's tenure as president of the United States during a DNC event at Chicago Waldorf Historia hotel on Thursday in hopes encouraging Democratic supporters to get out and vote in the mid-term elections this November. In familiar wording, First Lady Obama lauded the latest employment numbers, the passing of the Affordable Care Act, jobs for veterans, and the number of children who, as a result of her own efforts with Let's Move,  are eating healthier. She said when she's asked if she still believes in the president's slogan of "hope" and "change" she says she tells people she believes it more strongly than ever before - "because I've seen it with my own eyes". Mrs. Obama  reminded the audience that despite her husband's accomplishments at the expense of the hard work of constituents like those in the audience, "there is still plenty of work to do", she said. We've all heard the statistics: Chicago is one of the most deadly U.S. cities.  Eighty-two people were killed in a single July 4th weekend - two weekends ago. Again, 82 people murdered , including children and the elderly. We all watched when the president cried on national TV when just 20 kids at Sandy hook ES where shot and killed by a single individual, Adam Lanza.   The president even remarked at a memorial service. We watched when Obama remarked  on the killing in an Aurora movie theatre that saw James Holmes shoot, and kill, 12 people. The president has tried to increase restrictions on gun ownership, pushing for more background checks and psychiatric testing before Americans can purchase a gun, at the resistance of Congress. Fed up with the politics, and feeling ignored, Chicagoans took to the streets in protest last Friday. First Lady Michelle Obama, in unison with her husband on the issues of gun violence and youth education, spoke at two events in her hometown of Chicago this week. Speaking on Wednesday at a joint luncheon meeting in Chicago hosted by Mayor Rahm Emanuel that included members of Chicago's leading civic organizations, Mrs. Obama urged Chicago¹s business leaders to invest in expanded opportunities for youth across Chicago¹s neighborhoods. The first lady reminded the assembled audience that one doesn't have to be born of wealth and privilege to be successful, as long as the community provides opportunities. Rahm Emanuel was thrown off the ballot for mayor of Chicago today by an appellate court panel, ruling 2-1 he did not meet the residency standard to run for mayor. Following the ruling, Emanuel said he is confident he will win an appeal and be on the Feb. 22 mayoral ballot. “I have no doubt at the end we will prevail,” he said. “As my father has said, ‘Nothing is ever easy.’” Read entire article here . Emanuel served as White House Chief of Staff in President Obama's administration, and served as president Clinton's advisor from 1993 to 1998. On Emanuel's FaceBook page he invites viewers to review a recent press conference , held earlier today, where he he claims to owe a home in Chicago, and pays taxes there. His website ChicagoforRahm.com  does not appear to be functioning.

Bishop Arthur M. Brazier author and former pastor emeritus of the Apostolic Church of God in Chicago, Illinois has died. Brazier was also a bishop, prominent civic leader and founder of The Woodlawn Organization, which was influential in Chicago's civil rights movement in the 1960s and continues its work to this day. He was 89. President Obama remarked on the passing: "Michelle and I were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of our dear friend, a stalwart of the city of Chicago, and one of our nation’s leading moral lights, Bishop Arthur M. Brazier. Through his service as a pastor and his work on behalf of our communities, Bishop Brazier touched the lives of countless Americans. Bishop Brazier grew up during the Great Depression and never forgot how the sting of poverty can shape a community and a nation.
