Should President Biden's Neurologist Visit Be a Big Deal?

They're coming from the left.  They're coming from the right. They're coming... for President Joe Biden to make him step down from his position as President of the United States. After what many are calling a 'concerning debate performance' nearly two weeks ago in his first debate with former President Donald Trump for the 2024 presidential bid, many are worried that the president's mental acuity is failing. ADVERTISEMENT Got a Workplace Situation?   People. Keep in mind that President Biden has been in office for 3+ years. No one has steadfastly called for him to step down, so fervently, as right now. One debate vs 3+ years of progressive workmanship?   Some want Vice President Kamala Harris to take the reins, meanwhile Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is defending why she can't reveal the name, or names, of physicians of the president, specifically the neurologist who saw the president at the White House. In an announcement in the White House Rose Garden on Wednesday the president said that after isolating for five days, and taking PAXLOVID, he has tested negative for COVID-19. "I'm feeling great", the president said. He thanked those concerned for their well wishes, and credited his being vaccinated and boosted for his quick recovery. He also reminded Americans that the BA.5 COVID variant is still among us and admonished everyone to do the work to protect themselves, including getting vaccinated and boosted with readily available vaccines. "You can now prevent most  COVID  deaths", he said. "And that’s because [of] three free tools my administration has invested in and distributed this past year: booster shots; at-home tests; easy-to-use, effective treatments." "We’ve got through  COVID  with no fear -- I got through it with no fear.  A very mild discomfort because of these essential, lifesaving tools." "Americans can go to covid.gov , i...

H.R.3771: Revelations in Asian American heart health.

S TATEMENT OF  A DMINISTRATION  P OLICY H.R. 3771 – South Asian Heart Health Awareness and Research Act of 2022 (Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-WA, and 32 cosponsors) The Administration strongly supports House passage of H.R. 3771, the South Asian Heart Health Awareness and Research Act of 2022, and looks forward to working with the Senate on this critical bill.   South Asian Americans carry a disproportionate risk of cardiovascular disease and related disorders like type 2 diabetes.  Worldwide, despite comprising just a quarter of the population, South Asians account for 60 percent of all heart disease cases.  In the United States, South Asian Americans have a significantly higher risk of mortality from coronary heart disease than the general population.  Earlier recognition and treatment of this community’s specific risk factors for heart disease is therefore essential to mitigate disease burden and reduce disparities in care and outcomes.   The Sout...

Driving toward a more equal, just America?

The wheels that grind this country's racist ways have to come to an end.   Over the last days and weeks America has started to see the country move in that direction.   From discussions over whether or not the Confederate flag that flies at the state capital in South Carolina is a sign of racial hatred, prompting its removal, to fighting disparities in housing , healthcare , and same-sex marriage . Thursday, the Supreme Court ruled that disparate-impact standard has worked to combat systemic discrimination in the case of  Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs v. Inclusive Communities Project Inc .  (See Supreme Court Syllabus here ). America, the equal?  A flag symbolizing equality flies in front of the Supreme Court. Under the Fair Housing Authority, "it is unlawful to refuse to sell, rent or otherwise make unavailable or deny a dwelling to a person because of race, or other protected characteristic." Attorney General Loretta Lynch we...

Was Gwyneth Paltrow Hitting on President Obama?

President Obama spoke at a DNC fundraiser at the home of  Gwyneth Paltrow last evening.  During her introduction of the president she expressed her 'affinity' for him saying, "   “you’re so handsome that I can’t speak properly."   Mesmerized  by the president's presence Paltrow lauded, "I'm your biggest fan." Also during her introduction she applauded the president on passing legislation for equal pay for equal work for women, which she said was "very important" to her "as a working mother." Remarks by First Lady Michelle Obama at a Chicago DNC event

The first lady took to the heart the successes of her husband's tenure as president of the United States during a DNC event at Chicago Waldorf Historia hotel on Thursday in hopes encouraging Democratic supporters to get out and vote in the mid-term elections this November. In familiar wording, First Lady Obama lauded the latest employment numbers, the passing of the Affordable Care Act, jobs for veterans, and the number of children who, as a result of her own efforts with Let's Move,  are eating healthier. She said when she's asked if she still believes in the president's slogan of "hope" and "change" she says she tells people she believes it more strongly than ever before - "because I've seen it with my own eyes". Mrs. Obama  reminded the audience that despite her husband's accomplishments at the expense of the hard work of constituents like those in the audience, "there is still plenty of work to do", she said. Has Kathleen Sebelius Really Resigned?

We couldn't help but notice (while looking to see how many people of color, in prominent roles, work for the Obama administration) that 'former' Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is still being featured on the White House Profiles pages . Does Kathleen Sebelius still work for the White House as SHHS? Ms. Sebelius was said to have resigned amid the embattled roll out of the Affordable Care Act website  that ended up being a nightmare for the administration, and those wanting to sign up for health care coverage. You may recall incidents with the website crashing , security issues , and more . [ Sebelius' White House blog posts ]. Despite those 'glitches', more than 7 million Americans have enrolled - a feat the administration calls "historical." Silvia Matthews Burwell (Office of Management and Budget) was announced as the replacement for Sebelius, and praised by President Obama.  Burwell was confirmed by the Sena...

Health Care Insurance: Have You Signed Up For It Yet?

A reported number of 4 million people have enrolled already, per the White House, and continued efforts to ensure that young people as well, continue to enroll. From the White House: Building on efforts over the past several months to encourage Americans to check out HealthCare.gov , where they can find quality health coverage, and likely get financial assistance to make monthly premiums even more affordable, this week, the President, First Lady, and Vice President will all publicly encourage the uninsured to enroll in health coverage and Senior Administration Officials will continue to urge Americans to enroll through radio interviews and events across the country.   On Thursday, March 6 , President Obama will participate in a historic Town Hall on Latinos and the Affordabl...

If It's Fall In Washington...

... then there's going to be some harvesting and healthy eating talk going on at the White House. Just as in the Spring, the White House garden is a famed attraction. First Lady Michelle Obama brought several young people to the White House to participate in the Fall harvesting of the White House garden. Students from Magnolia Elementary School (Maryland), North Elementary School(West Virginia), DC's Harriet Tubman Elementary and Bancroft schools also joined the occasion. The First Lady was joined by Sesame Street's Elmo and Rosita in the White House to round off the day of talking to young people about the importance of healthy eating. The Sesame Workshop and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) in a two-year agreement to help promote fresh fruit and vegetable consumption to kids, making those healthy choices a little easier for busy parents and families to make. The agreement allows PMA’s...

You'd Think After the First Four Years, We'd Have A Little More Togetherness

On Tuesday, President Barack Obama addressed the media, then took questions regarding the government shutdown, healthcare, the debt ceiling and other concerning issues he says the Republicans are being uncooperative about. House Speaker John Boehner took to the podium moments later arguing the case that President Obama is unwilling to negotiate. It's time both parties but an end this war of words and take action to put Americans back to work and on solid footing. Thankfully, good Samaritans have come forward to assist Americans in their time of need where the shutdown has affected everyday Americans.  (See military | See education ). Related On the Affordable Care Act, Republicans have fought the president tooth and nail. Oct 2008 : "You'll never get elected and pass healthcare." Nov 2008: "We'll never let you pass healthcare." Jan 2009: "We're gonna shout you down every time you try to pass healthcare." July 2009: ...
