Richmond, Va. has its share of issues that don't seem to get resolved, just like any other city. Lately, the seemingly cash-strapped city has decided to close many of its schools - mainly in poor, underserved areas. Its mayor has come under fire for being a preacher on Sundays and a 'part-time' mayor the other days of the week; potholes are rampant, aggressive parking ticket writing (the city's cash cow) is the norm, and crime is off the charts .  (See also:  No July 4th fireworks ). The Wilder Anniversary Committee will commemorate the election of the nation's first popularly elected African-American governor with an educational symposium followed by a formal gala. Wilder, who blazed the trail well before his election as Virginia’s 66th Governor—becoming the first African-American legislator to serve in the State Senate since Reconstruction in 1969 and the first African-American lieutenant governor of the commonwealth in 1985 will be honored. Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) spoke during a Richmond Times Dispatch Public Square forum on Tuesday of this week where he addressed several issues: specifically how, when, and where America's military power is called into action. Kaine admitted he is not an expert on the subject, telling the crowd he "is a lay person" who happens to be "passionate" about the matter (since 2002) who wanted to address the law surrounding it, its history, the current problem , and "the fix". Congress has the power to declare war, while a U.S. president must consult with Congress before deploying U.S. military into hostile territories. "The issue", explains Kaine, "is the role of the president and Congress in doing what is the hardest thing, which is to initiate military action." Bob McDonnell, former governor of Virginia, has been found guilty  on 11 of 13 counts on conspiracy to commit wire fraud, illegally obtaining property, making false statements, and other actions unbecoming of a state governor. Former VA governor Bob McDonnell and former first lady Maureen McDonnell found guilty of corruption. The McDonnell trial lasted for more than three weeks when former chef, Todd Schneider , dropped a dime on the McDonnells after Schneider was accused of stealing food from the executive pantry of the governor's mansion for his side catering jobs.  Schneider maintained his innocence saying the food was payment for services rendered. After the firing, Schneider informed law enforcement that the McDonnells had taken money from wealthy Star Scientific businessman Johnny Williams .  Williams allegedly gave the McDonnells gifts to include a Rolex watch, paid for the wedding of the McDonnells' daughter, and for designer clothing for former first lady...
