White House Easter Roll: Sunny Skies, Hot Temps, A Bunny and Bo

Aw, Spring.    The time of year when the White House boasts beautiful flowers of all types in its garden, and where thousands of kids come to play and hang out with the First Family during the annual Easter Egg Roll , a tradition that started in 1876 by then President Rutherford B. Kids near and far attended the traditional rolling of the Easter egg down the White House lawn (with a spoon) as did as a few celebrities to boot.   Even Department of Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood braved the long lines of kids and parents, bringing with him his two grandchildren. Women's Professional Soccer Team Honored At The White House

President Obama hosted the 2009 reigning women's professioanl soccer champions, Sky Blue FC in the East Room of the White House last week. The Women's Professional Soccer ( WPS ) league launched in March 2009 and is the top-level pro women's soccer league in the US. It replaced WUSA, the world's first women's soccer league with all pro players, founded by Mia Hamm in 2000. Hamm formerly of the Washington Freedom soccer team helped spark national and international attention to the sport of women's soccer (especially among young girls), but the team was dismantled in 2003 due to low ticket sales. With the FiFA World Cup being played now in South Africa, Sky Blue's captain Christie Rampone hopes the success of the event will spark even more interest in the soccer, especially for women. First Lady Michelle Obama has added another dimension to her Let’s Move! campaign. Let’s Read ! “Let’s read! Let’s move!”, said the First Lady today at the Kennedy Recreation Center where along with the First Lady, congressional members and their spouses helped prepare Healthy Lifestyle Kits that included snacks and nutritional information, jump ropes, Frisbees, reading books and work books, and other activity equipment for children of the greater Washington, D.C. area.
