The 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games: Protesting Putin

Amid stories about faulty toilets , questionable drinking water , athletes bailing out , security issues,  a high jacked plane , and Russian President Vladimir Putin's put down of  the gay community , the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics got underway, anyway.  We've probably not had such distractions surrounding an Olympic event in a long time.  One can hardly imagine a more unpreparedness for a mega event like the 2014 winter games. The talk of the facilities and water at the Olympics pale in comparison Putin's "gay propaganda" law, making it illegal to disseminate information about homosexually to minors. "We are talking about protecting children from the respective information," said Putin. "Leave the children alone." Whether you agree or disagree with Putin for speaking his mind, his remarks set off a fire storm in the gay community, with many groups forming protests. Students of Amnesty International at a local college did just that; ...

President Obama Hosts Another Celebration for Latinos (and Gays)

Mending our nation’s immigration policy, to make it more fair, more efficient, and more just. President Barack Obama gave US workers a slap in the face today when he announced that illegal immigrants will be able to stay legally in America and find work. Work, that for millions of Americans who are here legally, can't find. This is the president's latest gift to the Latina community. Throughout his presidency he has consistently pandered to the demands Latinas.  He's spoken at several events featuring Latinos such as the Forum On American Latino Heritage, and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute 34th Annual Awards Gala. Speaking in July of 2011 to the National Council of La Raza  the president made remarks about having many Latinos working in his Cabinet.  "Right off the bat, I should thank you because I have poached quite a few of your alumni to work in my administration .  They're all doing outstanding work.  Raul...

Romney In DC: Calls Education "The Hope of the Earth"

Speaking today at the US Chamber of Commerce, presidential candidate Mitt Romney told those attending the Latino Coalition Economic Summit he see to it that every child gets a good education. Blah. Blah. Blah. Bore. Bore. Bore. Why?   Because we've heard the promise before.   If everyone who said they're interested in seeing every child get a first-rate, quality education, kids East of the River in DC would have had more new text books, and less metal detectors by now.  Every politician promises a good education for all.   Yet we still, as Romney pointed out, see in America "one in four kids" fail to get a high school degree, and half that don't graduate. "Kids in America are getting a third-world education", Romney said, calling the education crisis "the civil rights issue of our era."   Gee, we thought gay marriage was.  (At least it was two weeks ago). In addition to creating jobs, saving the economy, finding alter...

Did President Obama Cave In To Gays?

President Obama, in recent months, has said he was "evolving" on the subject of whether or not gay couples should have the right to marry. Today, the president made a statement the news corp has been wanting him to make for the entire length of his presidential career. "I am for gay marriage." While campaigning for the presidency in 2008, Mr. Obama made his thoughts clear that he was not in favor of same sex marriages, saying he believed that the union of marriage is between a man and a woman. Two men in support of gay marriage. Today, seemingly at the completion of his 'evolution', and in an election year, President Obama affirmed his new belief in an interview with ABC News' Robin Roberts. "I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raisi...
