Mr. 51 Meets Mr. 44

It isn't their first meeting, but sure may have been the most fun. Golden State Warriors' power three-point man Stephen 'Steph' Curry and the rest of the 2015 NBA Champions were honored by President Obama Thursday in the East Room of the White House. While the star of the Warriors media room, and Steph Curry's daughter, Riley, wasn't in attendance to witness her dad being honored (and joked on) by the leader of the free world she was certainly in his thoughts. "Now, let me begin by saying I was hoping that Riley Curry would be here today to share the podium with me, but I guess I'm going to have to get media training some other day." The president referenced Curry's 51 points scored in the 134-121 win over the Washington Wizards Wednesday, 33 of them via his signature three-point arsenal. "For those of you who watched the game against the Wizards last night", said the president, "he was, to use slang, he was clownin...

2015 Easter Egg Roll: Let's Move!, Live! and #Gimme5!

The annual Easter Egg Roll on the South Lawn of the White House was again flanked with kids of all sizes and ages dressed in pretty, and handsomely colored Easter attire waiting their turn to roll an Easter egg down a stretch of green, spring grass.  There were no prizes for the winners who got their egg to the finish line first; just the pageantry of being on the White House lawn, seeing the president and first lady and having amazing fun. President Obama  and First Lady Michelle Obama ready the egg rollers at the 2015 Easter Egg Roll  on the South Lawn of the White House.  Photo/CD Brown. The weather cooperated perfectly.  It was a sunny, pleasant 70 degrees; a bit less warm than years pass when visitors could be seen with beads of sweat brimming from foreheads - and underarms. Seemingly, there were less kids at the Egg Roll station, and the event was also missing a few members of the first family.  Both grandma Robinson and first daughters, Mali...

Remarks by First Lady Michelle Obama at a Chicago DNC event

The first lady took to the heart the successes of her husband's tenure as president of the United States during a DNC event at Chicago Waldorf Historia hotel on Thursday in hopes encouraging Democratic supporters to get out and vote in the mid-term elections this November. In familiar wording, First Lady Obama lauded the latest employment numbers, the passing of the Affordable Care Act, jobs for veterans, and the number of children who, as a result of her own efforts with Let's Move,  are eating healthier. She said when she's asked if she still believes in the president's slogan of "hope" and "change" she says she tells people she believes it more strongly than ever before - "because I've seen it with my own eyes". Mrs. Obama  reminded the audience that despite her husband's accomplishments at the expense of the hard work of constituents like those in the audience, "there is still plenty of work to do", she said. S...

If It's Fall In Washington...

... then there's going to be some harvesting and healthy eating talk going on at the White House. Just as in the Spring, the White House garden is a famed attraction. First Lady Michelle Obama brought several young people to the White House to participate in the Fall harvesting of the White House garden. Students from Magnolia Elementary School (Maryland), North Elementary School(West Virginia), DC's Harriet Tubman Elementary and Bancroft schools also joined the occasion. The First Lady was joined by Sesame Street's Elmo and Rosita in the White House to round off the day of talking to young people about the importance of healthy eating. The Sesame Workshop and the Produce Marketing Association (PMA) joined the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) in a two-year agreement to help promote fresh fruit and vegetable consumption to kids, making those healthy choices a little easier for busy parents and families to make. The agreement allows PMA’s...

'Drink More Water', says First Lady Michelle Obama

You Are What You Drink When we first got a swig (pun intended) of this upcoming event with Michelle Obama encouraging Americans to drink more water, we knew the crazies would come out against it. Apparently, the only ones who can talk about fitness, eating healthy, and drinking water are Jane Fonda , Jack LaLanne , the group Drink Water , and the bottled water company, Drink More Water . First Lady Obama wants Americans to drink more water. Even with a resume in fitness like the one of Mrs. Obama, she still receives backlash.   Speaking at an event yesterday in Watertown, Wisconsin the first lady gave a passionate appeal on why drinking water is healthy for all. "But I really care about your health like I care about my kids' health", said Mrs. Obama. "That's why I've devoted so much of my energy into making sure that your generation is as healthy as you can be.  We've been talking about how you got to move and keep active and eat right.  ...

First Lady and Students Return To Harvest White House Garden; Eat Pizza

Tuesday morning cloudy, wet skies gave way to a beautiful afternoon in the White House garden where First Lady Michelle Obama and students from several schools gathered to reap the fruits of their labor.   First Lady Obama and students harvest vegetables from the White House garden. Photo/CD Brown. It was an awe inspiring moment to see that which had started as just little seeds months before in April, grow to be what will now feed White House guests, dignitaries, friends, and of course the First Family. Situated near the White House fountain and adjacent to the White House Children’s garden are full grown radishes, cabbage, carrots, spinach, kale, collard greens and leeks ready for the picking (and eating).   The first lady joined students from Arthur D. Healey School from Somerville, Massachusetts; and Milton Elementary Schoo l from Milton, Vermont – the later schools whose communities were ravished by Hurricane Sandy earlier this year. Mrs. Ob...

First Lady Celebrates Year Three of 'Let's Move!'

Celebrating year three of her Let's Move! initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama announces a new effort to make healthier, MyPlate Recipes easy to find and share with help of  America’s largest media companies. First Lady Michelle Obama Delivers Stellar Remarks at CBC Awards Dinner

If you were unsure why you should in this election, First Lady Michelle Obama made it plain why you should.  Speaking last evening at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's ( CBCF ) Phoenix Award Dinner, the first lady gave all in attendance some tough political thoughts to take home. Coming off a rousing speech this month at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, and making several campaign fundraising speeches in support of her husband, President Barack Obama, the first lady's speech last night was booth encouraging and inspiring, touching on several issues that included her saying that this election "is the march of our lifetime." The First Lady wearing a floor-length, off the shoulder black Micahel Kors gown with a shimmering, diamond-like sequenced belt, addressed the crowd telling them, "But today, how many of us have asked someone whether they’re going to vote, and they say, no, I’m too busy, and besides, I voted last time; or, nah,...

Kids' State Dinner Quite A Shindig

First Lady Michelle Obama hosted a first ever White House State Dinner for children who submitted their favorite, healthy kid recipes to the White House in support of the First Lady's Let's Move healthy eating initiative. We have some real color commentary (too informative and extensive to waste) from a White House pool report that sums up the event quite nicely.   (Thanks to Eddie Gehman Kohan, Executive Editor of ObamaFoodorama , a web site she started that highlights the food events surrounding the The First Lady's Let's Move! initiative and the The Food Archive of the Obama Presidency). Before we get to that though, let me also add that we thought White House chef, Sam Kass, did a fabulous job working the 'Red Carpet' as the winners arrived through the part of the White House known as the Booksellers area.  Kass interviewed each winner before they entered the East Room of the White House getting reaction from them all on bein...

In a conference call to the media members this afternoon (where she began by remembering the victims of the Aurora, Colorado movie massacre), First Lady Michelle Obama laid out the plans for her visit as head of the Presidential Delegation to the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games. ** UPDATE **  See pictures of the First Lady in London. "I am beyond proud to lead the Olympic delegation.  It's a dream come true", she exclaimed.  The first lady recounted watching the Olympics when she was growing up saying she "watched and cheered" for the US athletes. As head of the Olympic Delegation Mrs. Obama will get to meet first hand with 2012 US Olympic teams and athletes.  She will also visit the U.S. Olympic Training Facility at University of East London. "Being an Olympian is about pushing yourself, and believing in yourself, and refusing to give up", Mrs. Obama said. The First Lady is working to turn the inspiration of the Olympic...
