Thoughts On The Death of Osama bin Laden

I thought this quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was appropriate at this time to remind us that not everyone celebrates the death of another human being, no matter the wrong done.

"I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy. Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that."   - Martin Luther King Jr.

A local poet shares her thoughts on the death of Osama bin Laden

Obama said Osama’s Dead.
Obama said, “Osama is dead!”
11pm on May 1, 2011, sister sent a text, daddy called my phone,
No thought of this news to be told.
Early in the am hubby confirmed the slaying
Obama said Osama is dead.
With no pics and proof to see
Many believe it’s a conspiracy.
“They showed Sadam, why not Osama?”
This question wants answers—did we get our karma?
Ten years ago twenty-three hundred dead,
Navy seals gave Osama one straight to the head.
His son is gone too, no worry there,
Cause’ you know that dude would’ve been his heir.
Eighteen foot walls couldn’t stop the U.S.
CNN, Al- Jazeera, whose got the real press?
The news is great- no more beef, no more vices,
But now what the fuck about the high-ass gas prices?
We are at $4.00 a gallon,
If they decrease, "Shit”, kill all the Bin-Ladens!
They say for tradition they buried Osama at sea,
I’m Muslim and this is some news to me.
They must not want a shrine or monument,
But this is why people doubt our government.
The original Trade Center bombing had elevens,
And damn if ain’t happen again.
Two sides to the story, some people are upset,
Some in my fam didn’t see him as a threat!
Interesting enough,
We called Osama’s bluff.
That bitter-sweet revenge feeling,
But now will there be more killings?
So heavy is this news,
Obama scored kudos and brownie points too.
Now matters like birth certificates and residency,
Don’t take up space in the news we see-
Trump, “Are you feeling me?”
I love you, but that statement was killing me!
Great for candidacy?
Great for parity or good ole’ hilarity?
Apprentice of Celebrity,
Obama gave the 3rd degree-
Even mentioned TuPac & Biggie
Like Charlie Sheen - Obama you’re WINNING!
Now leave this man alone,
He’ll run again and will win
We like him on that throne!
For all the families affected by this,
without a mention I’d be remiss.
My prayers to you and yours,
Military, thanks for fighting our wars.
To all the press and media- cheers to what Obama said…
American people, “Osama Bin Laden is dead."

”My prayers to all those who lost their lives in accordance with Terrorism. The tragedies from 2001 in the Trade Center Bombings and Osama, may all of you rest in peace. - Poet GG Zen

The Story Behind Presidents' Day

Did you know Presidents' Day isn’t just about a day off?  Originally established to honor George Washington’s birthday, it has since grown to celebrate all U.S. presidents who’ve shaped the country’s path. It’s a day to reflect on leadership, service, and the values that drive national progress. Presidents' Day dates back to 1879, when it was first recognized as a federal holiday for Washington. Later, Abraham Lincoln’s February birthday brought attention. By 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act combined the days, creating the long weekend many know today—but its purpose goes far deeper. From decisions that forged independence to policies steering modern challenges, U.S. presidents have helped shape history. It's a moment to appreciate lessons in courage, responsibility, and the impact of strong leadership on society today. How do you celebrate Presidents' Day?  Is it by learning about the leaders who influenced American history? Do you read their biographies, visit ...

Gary Locke Nominated as Ambassador to China

Gary Locke, former White House Secretary of Commerce, has been nominated by the President as U.S. ambassador to China. Locke replaces former Utah governor  Jon Huntsman, who has stepped down to (wait for it) possibly challenge President Obama in the 2012 presidential race. Locke was the first Chinese-American governor and should the Senate approve his nomination, would the be first Chinese-American ambassador to China.  He is a partner in the Seattle office of the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine which lists China as one of its specialties. "Gary has distinguished himself as one of our nation’s most respected and admired public servants.  As our country’s first Chinese-American governor, he worked tirelessly to attract jobs and businesses to Washington State, and he doubled exports to China", said President Obama during this morning's announcement. "He’s been a point person for my National Export Initiative, and last year, Gary’s depa...
